Niall Mason is targeting more goals after his second in as many games helped Rovers on their way to three points against Northampton Town.
Mason’s spot-kick was his second success in four days, following his first career strike against Bristol Rovers on Saturday, and he swas always confident he would score from 12 yards when the opportunity came up.
“It’s something that I used to do when I was in the youth team, and I never really missed when I was younger. I started practising more and I asked John Marquis a couple weeks ago if I could have the next one and luckily he said yes,” he said.
“It’s hard at full-back to get goals and, if I can keep taking penalties, then I can keep this run I’m on going.”
The Boxing Day win saw Rovers record back-to-back victories in Sky Bet League One for the first time this season, and Mason is now confident this can be the start of a promising period for him and his team-mates.
“To get back-to-back victories and clean sheets gives us a lot of confidence and we can take that forward now and go on a good run,” he added.
“We’ve kept the belief even through the bad run because our performances were good, and, after winning the last two, I think people have seen how far we’ve come and turned things around.
“We go into the Rochdale game with the same mentality, same performance, it’s really important to get the wins from the last two, and we need to look ahead to Friday and get away from this group around us.”
