May back in the goals

30 December 2017

Alfie May revealed his strike against Rochdale on Friday night came after a deliberate attempt to think less in front of goal.

May's effort was the striker's first since September following a spell out with injury, and he was relieved when the chance came to get back on the scoresheet.

“It’s nice to come back after injury and get the goal, it wasn’t nice being out and trying to get your shirt back is difficult, but I could’ve had a couple on Boxing Day, so I said to myself just to not think about it too much,” He said.

“It’s a great three points and we were on top all game, we wanted a third to settle it, but we’ve kept another clean sheet too, with three clean sheets and three wins so far, the dressing room is buzzing.

“Most games we like to press and work hard, and when you see your teammates working hard you want to push that little bit more, everyone looks at that and John Marquis has run around for 96 minutes and his work rate is unbelievable.”

Rovers head into 2018 with a trip to Darren Ferguson’s former side Peterborough United on New Year's Day, and May says recent form means the lads will head down the A1 full of confidence.

“This is the hardest part of the season because there are so many games in such a short space of time, its been great training though because everyone has a smile on their face, the gaffer is happy and there is such a togetherness around the squad,” he added.

“We go to Peterborough with massive confidence now and we’ll go out there to get another three points, hopefully four wins from four with another clean sheet, but we know it’s a difficult place to go but we will work hard for the win.

“You have to dig deep and grind out results, the confidence is really high and we want to keep doing what were doing and go on a run, we got a 0-0 draw with Peterborough last time, but were going there with massive confidence and we want the win.”
