Strachan looking for reaction

15 December 2017

Assistant manager Gavin Strachan is keen to see a reaction from Rovers as they host Oldham Atheltic at the weekend.

Rovers face the Latics following a late defeat on the road to Oxford last weekend, and Strachan is confident that they can bounce back on Saturday.

“I think we’ve tried to emphasise the positives from last week and show them the good things from it, we had to pick the players up and quickly turn our attentions to this weekend’s game but the lads feel ready,” Strachan said.

“Part of our job is to maintain the belief in the players and just ask them to produce on the pitch and the results will improve.

“We need to have a lot of energy and to be aggressive on and off the ball if we are to get a positive result, we want the players to have the belief that if they keep doing what we ask then our luck and results will change very soon.”

Saturday’s visit of Oldham also sees the return of former Rovers midfielder Richie Wellens, who left the Keepmoat last year, meaning that there is an extra edge to the weekend’s fixture.

“Richie has gone in and changed it around and his team is a good reflection on how he was as a player, it is centred around good passing and moving, exciting and entertaining and they had a big win last weekend so they’re in good form,” he said.

“When he left here he took an interest in coaching, he was a very intelligent footballer and I was on trial at Blackpool when he was there, and I could see that straight away, so it’s not a surprise to me that he’s done well because he’s got a love for football.

“He left on amicable terms, he wanted to move closer to home and the opportunity came for him to do so, so he left on good terms and I hope he’ll be welcomed back and get a good reception from the fans.”

Tickets are still available for the visit of Richie Wellens’ Oldham Athletic in Sky Bet League One this Saturday. They can be purchased by visiting in-store at the Club Doncaster Box Office, by calling on 01302 762576, or via the website tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk
