Foundation Friday: Fit Rovers

3 February 2017

Club Doncaster Foundation were proud to host their First Fit Rovers session at the Keepmoat Stadium.

The night saw a full house of eager participants get to grips with the course, which offers men over the age of 30 the chance to lose weight, increase fitness levels and rekindle their love for football.

Present for the course was Rovers club captain Andy Butler who greeted the participants before joining in with the health workshop and exercise session.

Impressed with the turnout and quality of the session, Andy said: “It’s great to see so many men taking an interest in this, hopefully they can spread the word and we can get more people active.”

One session a week for eight weeks is included in the course, as well as incentives such as sports wear, Doncaster Rovers player visits and money off match shirts.

Due to popular demand, Club Doncaster Foundation are now hosting a day session to run alongside the evening one that will contain exactly the same structure and content.

Unlike big fitness/weight-loss chains that charge you for public weigh-ins and give minimal guidance, information at Fit Rovers is completely confidential meaning you can keep a track of exactly how you’re doing on a one-to-one basis with the staff.

The sessions consist of an interactive workshop looking at managing portion sizes and making healthy but tasty food followed by a gym session tailored to the needs of every individual.

Community officer for health and wellbeing, Nick Gillott, has been delighted with the response and hopes that by providing this free course, Club Doncaster Foundation can make a real difference to the community.

He said: “Alarmingly, Doncaster was recently revealed as one of the most obese towns in Britain so by introducing the course we want to make a significant difference to that.

“We had 20 people there for the first session, which is a fantastic turn out and everyone there was so keen to make a difference, it’s really great to see and they’ll be a good bunch to work with.”
