DF pre Portsmouth

5 January 2017

Rovers boss Darren Ferguson knows it is going to be a challenge against the South coast side.

Doncaster Rovers manager Darren Ferguson is looking forward to facing a strong Portsmouth side on Thursday night.

The last time the two sides met Rovers were victorious at Fratton Park, with goals from John Marquis and Andy Williams giving them three valuable  points on the South coast.

And Ferguson is looking for a similar outcome on this occasion but knows his side are in for a battle against Paul Cook’s men.

“It’s a game that I am really looking forward to and hopefully we come out the victors,” said Ferguson.

“I think it will be a pitch full of quality players for both sides, I think it will be a good footballing match.

“Paul has a good team there and he has some very, very good players at this level and I’m sure he’d say the same about us, both teams will have a right go at each other.”

Rovers currently sit at the top of Sky Bet League Two after grabbing a late winner against Stevenage last time out.

Meanwhile, Portsmouth are in fourth spot, seven points adrift of the league leaders, but Ferguson does not play too much attention about the gap between the two sides.

“I haven’t focused on that too much with the players to be honest.

“I know for a fact that the teams that is most consistent over the course of the season and are the ones that are the most successful.

“Up to know we have been consistent and we just have to maintain that, so it’s not as much as us winning and going 10 points in front of Portsmouth, it’s can we get more points on the table.”
