Foundation Friday: Kinder+Sport cups

13 January 2017

Schools in partnership with Club Doncaster Foundation have relished taking part in recent EFL Trust Kinder+Sport cups.

Local competitions are organised across the country by EFL Clubs, which allow thousands of school students to battle it out for the chance to represent their local club in the regional finals.

Thursday’s girls cup saw Hungerhill School represent Doncaster Rovers in the finals in Nottingham after a successful group stage.

The coming weeks allow several other ages groups to emulate that success as an abundance of competitions take place throughout Doncaster.

Community Officer Dean Sharp is delighted with what the partnership has brought and with the involvement of the young people so far.

“Club Doncaster Foundation are proud to support the EFL Trust in delivering their Kinder +Sport national tournaments,” he said.

“It is a great opportunity for children and young people in Doncaster to showcase their skills and abilities on the football field.

“Our partner schools have benefited greatly from this opportunity and it just shows what can be achieved through the schools projects.”

Friday sees the Year 10 and 11 boys Futsal Cup take place at The Dome in Doncaster, where schools compete for the accolade of representing Rovers in the regional finals next month.

This is followed by the ‘Kids Cup’ held at the Keepmoat Stadium on January 25, which is aimed at younger students to battle it out for the same prize.

Even more exciting for the winners, if they conquer the finals they take their game to England’s biggest footballing stage with the ultimate prize the chance to compete on the famous Wembley turf.
