Ferguson happy with attitude

12 July 2017

Darren Ferguson praised the attitude of his players after they kicked off preparations for the 2017-18 season in style with a 9-0 victory over Armthorpe Welfare.

Rovers had six different players on the score-sheet, including a hat-trick from Liam Mandeville and a brace from James Coppinger, and the Rovers boss was pleased with the overall display.

“The team went about it in the right manner, the attitude was great and we moved the ball around really well,” he said.

“One or two had to play more than I wanted but that was needed so I’m delighted with the outcome.

“It was a really good exercise for us, the players have trained really well and you could see tonight just how hard they have been working.”

New signings Danny Andrew and Ben Whiteman played 45 minutes each and Ferguson was happy with how they performed in their first appearances for the club.

“They’re both very good players. Ben got his goal and he will bring a lot to us this season, the way he gets about the midfield is impressive,” he added.

“We’ve strengthened areas we wanted to and we’re working hard to try and improve us further.

“We’ve got to be patient, looking at the situation now I’m comfortable with where we’re at but I still want to bring more players in.”
