Mathieu Baudry will be out for up to three months with a stress fracture of a heel.
It is a separate injury to that which required surgery earlier in the summer of 2017.
Rovers boss Darren Ferguson said: “It is a real blow for Mathieu as he missed this part of the season last year and he brings something different to our game.
“He will be out for a definite two months, maybe three. Injuries are part of the game but it’s a bit of deja vu from last season.
“He felt a different sort of pain to what he had for the operation and it turns out it is a stress fracture.”
Ferguson also confirmed that midfielder Luke McCullough is also facing three months out with his knee injury.
