Rovers set for Tadcaster

14 July 2017

Darren Ferguson is set to use the depth within his squad as Rovers travel to take on non-league outfit Tadcaster Albion for their second pre-season friendly.

Rovers go into the game on the back of a 9-0 victory over Armthorpe Welfare and Ferguson believes giving different players time on the pitch will allow him to assess his options ahead of the upcoming Sky Bet League One season.

“We want the players to be fresh so we will mix up what we do and be mindful of how we manage them with a few games coming up in a short space of time,” he said.

“The game against Tadcaster will be similar to the one at Armthorpe, we’ll look to get the players a bit more time on the pitch and take it up a level.

“We want to keep improving and testing ourselves with our pre-season schedule, different players will get a chance so we’ll see how they go.”

Craig Alcock and new signing Alex Kiwomya look set to miss the game with minor knocks, but Ferguson is confident they will be fit to return sooner rather than later.

“We have a couple of knocks within the group, we don’t want to risk anyone as it’s important that the players are right for the start of the season,” he added.

“The injury to Luke McCullough is disappointing as he is a big player for us, we have a lot of options in there so we will have someone more than capable to come in.

“We have to be mindful of the tough week of travelling which the players had coming back from Scotland, we will rotate the squad as we see necessary.”
