A moment of brilliance from midfielder Tommy Rowe broke the dreadlock, after he headed home James Coppinger’s corner in the 74th minute, to send the Rovers fans into celebrations.
Manager Darren Ferguson said this about the season defining moment.
“We talked about the scenario all week and we all knew that we wanted to achieve promotion in-front of our own fans,” he said.
“Mansfield have conceded a lot of goals late on, so I was happy to go in level at half-time because I knew that we would get a lot of chances late on in the game.
“We do a lot of work on set-pieces and Rowey is brilliant at them, he has been a fantastic signing and he is vital in what we want to do in the future.”
