Rovers battled for a point at Crawley which maintained the 12-point gap to fourth place.

Rovers were unchanged from the 3-2 win at Cambridge, with Niall Mason continuing as a defensive midfielder and Alfie May's partnership with John Marquis continuing.

Rovers had a great chance to take the lead when they were awarded a penalty after 23 minutes.

They broke down the right, with Marquis passing the ball through to Tommy Rowe who was brought down.

Marquis, who converted a penalty on Tuesday night, stood up again  to take it - but this time the home keeper Glenn Morris got down well to his left to save.

May got onto the rebound, but could not steer it past Morris.

Rovers created the only chances of the second period, with James Coppinger having a great opportunity after Marquis clipped him in.

May also had the ball in the back of the net, but  an assistant's raised flag saw it chalked off.

Crawley started the second half well, with Ian Lawlor twice called into action early on.

First he needed to tip an effort on to the woodwork, then moments later got down well to smother an effort. The ball could have ricocheted anywhere, but thankfully rolled wide for a goal-kick.

Coppinger hit a sweet volley which looked destined for a top corner before James Collins interveneded with a header.

Andy Butler almost scored from the resulting corner, with his powerful header cleared off the line.

Gary McSheffrey came on for Coppinger and Andy Williams for May. as manager Ferguson tried to freshen things up

Marquis played Williams in, but he could not get the ball out from under his feet.

Butler, again, threatened with another strong header from a corner which was cleared off the line in the closing stages.
