Ferguson wants response

31 March 2017

Darren Ferguson is backing his players to respond with a strong performance when they take on Grimsby Town this weekend.

Rovers were defeated by Plymouth Argyle last time out, but are yet to lose back-to-back games this season and the manager believes his team will put on a good display at Blundell Park.

“We’re really concentrated on bouncing back on Saturday and responding to a defeat as we have done already this season,” he said.

“All the players are focused on is going to Grimsby and winning the game to make sure we stay top of the league.

“The aim will be to beat Grimsby, after that we’ll hopefully sit on the bus with three points in the bag – then we can have a look at how other results are going.”

With Rovers needing a maximum of six points to secure promotion to Sky Bet League One, Ferguson is urging his players to make the most of the experience.

“You’ve got to enjoy these challenges, as you never know how many more opportunities like this you are going to get,” he added.

“All of our games from now to the end of the season are going to be very competitive which is a good thing as it will allow us to play our natural game.

“Grimsby gave us a really tough game when they came here, it’s a close fixture for us and there will be an edge to the game with us having a lot of fans there.”
