The NCS team based at Club Doncaster Foundation have partnered with YMCA Doncaster ahead of the spring NCS programme.
Over the Easter period, 45 young people will be adventuring to Edale, Peak District to complete the first phase of the programme ran by CDF staff.
During their residential, the young people will try their hand at adrenaline-fuelled activities such as caving, abseiling, climbing and canoeing.
NCS Programme Manager, Jan Budtz expressed his delight at the partnership. He said: “The first phase is brilliant for building confidence and during the week, we really see the young people grow.”
“Taking part in NCS is a fantastic addition to add to your CV and really does give you invaluable life skills so it’s great that we can partner with YMCA Doncaster to give young people there this opportunity.”
After a week challenging themselves in the Peaks, the young people then return to Doncaster where they will take part in skills building sessions with ‘Dame Kelly Holmes Trust’, which involves inspirational talks from past athletes and team building exercises.
They will then spend the final week planning and delivering a Social Action Project of their choice to give something back to the community and help change the lives of local residents.
Michelle, YMCA Centre Manager commented: “Participating in the NCS programme will allow our learners to step outside of their comfort zone and experience things they never thought capable.”
“For some it will give them self-belief and the opportunity to build relationships as well as taking their first steps outside of Doncaster. The learner will return better citizens that are better equipped for the world of work.”
National Citizen Service is a once in a lifetime opportunity available to 15-17 year olds across England and Northern Ireland that builds life and work skills.
There are several start dates throughout the summer school holidays all at the fixed price of £50, which includes all accommodation, food and activities throughout the three weeks.
