Ferguson embracing Checkatrade tie

27 November 2017

Darren Ferguson says it is important that Rovers perform well if they are to overcome Rochdale in the second round of the Checktrade Trophy on Tuesday.

The game is the first of two cup games for Rovers in the space of six days, and Ferguson is looking forward to going up against Keith Hill’s side for the second time this season.

“The cup competitions are important to us, the aim in the Checkatrade Trophy was always to get through the group and we managed to do that,” he said.

“We want a good team performance but I’m also looking for individuals to step up as well and show me that they merit a place in the team.

“We’re going up against a team who have a lot of energy, they can play a number of different systems and have an experienced manager in charge.”

The manager is planning to make changes for the game at the Crown Oil Arena, and is looking for the fringe players in the squad to make an impression.

“Whatever team I go with we will be looking for the forward players to make an impact, Alfie Beestin is in a good place after the MK Dons game as he was excellent,” he added.

“There are places up for grabs in certain areas of the pitch so it’s a chance for anybody coming in who hasn’t been playing that often.

“There will be changes from the game on Saturday but it will be a lot stronger than the teams I’ve put out in the competition so far.”

Tickets for Rovers’ FA Cup second round tie against Scunthorpe United at the Keepmoat Stadium are available from the Club Doncaster Box Office, on 01302 762576 or at tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk
