Darren Ferguson praised the character shown by his side as Rovers progressed into the second round of the Emirates FA Cup with a 6-2 win over Ebbsfleet United.
Rovers were two goals down going into first-half injury time but goals from Tommy Rowe and John Marquis sent them in level at the break, before four second half goals sealed victory at the Kuflink Stadium.
Ferguson said: “There were lots of positives to take from the game, we had to show a lot of character to come from two goals down and get ourselves back in it.
“I was impressed that we didn’t change the way we wanted to play, we kept going and added more quality to our play and that’s where the goals came from.
“Ebbsfleet caused us some problems with their wide players but we always knew our quality would come through, six goals away from home is always good against any opposition.”
Captain James Coppinger grabbed a brace in the win against the National League side, and the manager says goals from midfield are crucial to how he wants his team to play.
“The way we play means that we need goals from that area of the pitch, we know that Copps and Rowey will always get goals,” he added.
“I was delighted with the way we played as we did a lot of what we’d worked on throughout the week in training.
“It’s been a good week for us, we’ve won six games out eight now so we go into the Rotherham game full of confidence.”
