Darren Ferguson believes Rovers will be going up against the best squad in the league when they take on Wigan Athletic in Sky Bet League One on Tuesday.
Rovers take on Paul Cook’s side having lost just once in five league games and the manager is looking forward to another tough game.
He said: “We’ve got a bit more belief and confidence within the side now and that’s linked in with the good run we’re on, we’ve always been able to play a number of formations.
“For me Wigan have got the best squad in the league, that doesn’t always mean you’ll be successful but they’ve got a very experienced manager who has done well in the game.
“They have a big squad and a lot of options to pick from, whatever team they play we will have to make sure we have a good performance.”
Ferguson says Rovers will go to the DW Stadium and look to win the game from the outset, while maintaining their discipline when in possession.
“We will go there to win as we do in every game, we have to be good in what we do and there’s no doubt that we want to come away with three points.
“If we can look after the ball and cause them problems with how we do things then we’ll do well, they had their first home defeat on Saturday so we know it will be difficult.
“They have players who should arguably be playing at a higher level but we can’t get distracted by that, we know we’re capable of winning the game.”
