Paul Stancliffe felt his U18 side’s 2-2 draw with Rotherham United showed the progress the players are making.
Goals from Jack Watson and Keegan Townrow were cancelled out by the young Millers as Joshua Kayode and Deegan Atherton held 10-men Rovers – Omar Sanyang was the player dismissed – to a draw.
Stancliffe said: “I thought there was positives, we went to Notts County with a similar aged team featuring our under-16s. We worked hard, and after going down to 10 men we’ve had to work even harder.
“We could’ve won the game in the dying seconds there when Myron’s got away one-on-one with the keeper and, overall, I thought we had the better chances.”
Several of Stancliffe’s players are catching the eye of first team manager Darren Ferguson, including Danny Amos who recently signed his first professional contract at the club.
“I’m happy with all of the players’ development, some take longer than others but they’re all attentive in training: they all listen, they all try and do as they’ve been asked.
"They’re a good bunch of players and sometimes that might be their downfall because sometimes you can be a little bit too nice.”
Rovers’ youth team are back in action at the Keepmoat Stadium on Tuesday when they host Blackpool in the FA Youth Cup. The match kicks off at 7pm, with tickets just £3 or £1 for concessions and Season Members.
