Whiteman still learning

10 November 2017

Ben Whiteman believes he is continuing to grow as a player after his nomination for the PFA Player of the Month award for October.

Whiteman scored four goals throughout the month and says he is learning a lot from working under Rovers manager Darren Ferguson.

“The past month or so has been good both as a team and personally, we’ve picked up some positive results and put a bit of a run together,” he said.

“At the age I am now I’m still learning all about the EFL, I’m still learning about myself as a player and the only way I can improve is to keep playing games.

“I’m working hard to impress the manager, I don’t want to get too far ahead of myself as I’m really enjoying my football at the minute.”

Rovers face South Yorkshire rivals Rotherham United in Sky Bet League One this weekend, and Whiteman is expecting a typical derby atmosphere.

“It’s a massive game for both sides, all the lads have been speaking throughout the week about how much it means to the fans,” he added.

“We want to send them home with a win and try to put on a performance, it should be a good atmosphere and hopefully the game can match it.

“We have players in the squad who’ve played in these types of games before, James Coppinger and Andy Butler have been there and done it before.”

Please be advised that tickets for this weekend’s game against Rotherham United must be purchased in advance as no cash gates will be available on the day. Tickets can be bought from the Club Doncaster Box Office, on 01302 762576 or at tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk
