Ben Khemis delighted with goal

4 October 2017

Midfielder Issam Ben Khemis was delighted with his first goal for the club after firing Rovers to a 1-0 win over Sunderland U21 in the Checkatrade Trophy.

The Frenchman who signed for Rovers after impressing on a trial period at the start of the season saw his left-footed curler nestle in the top corner of Mike Domingues’ net after 70 minutes, but Ben Khemis says the win was the most important thing.

“It was a really good game, with a youthful team but we worked hard and overall, it was a good game and it was good to get the win,” said Ben Khemis.

“I am happy to get my first goal for the club, Liam Mandeville provided me with a good assist and I think it was very important to get the three points.

“We have a good group of players, at the moment the results have been difficult but we are sticking together and we will turn it around.”

Since moving to England, Ben Khemis has relied on fellow countryman Mathieu Baudry and the 21-year-old has said that he dedicated his celebration to his team-mate.

“The celebration was for my friend Mathieu Baudry as we are looking to go and watch some NFL, and some of the players celebrate like that,” said Ben Khemis.

“Baudry has helped me to settle into Doncaster which is important for me, because sometimes it is difficult coming over to a new country, learning the language and culture.

“I am learning a lot about the English game, it is more physical and quick, I have time to learn more about England and adapt.”
