Butler up for Saddlers test

19 October 2017

Andy Butler is looking forward to going up against his former club Walsall in Sky Bet League One this weekend.

The Rovers club captain played more than 150 games for the Saddlers, but says his priority is to get three points for Darren Ferguson’s side.

“Walsall are doing well at the minute, Jon Whitney has had a tough job but he’s built them back up and he’s doing well,” he said.

“They’ve drawn a lot of games and it’s the fine lines for them as it is us, I still look out for their results but all that matters to me now is doing well here.

“I’d like to think we’ve done quite well in stages in the majority of games this season, hopefully now we’ve come through a sticky patch and we’re looking to kick on.”

Butler has played alongside Joe Wright in every league game this season, and has been impressed by the Welsh defender’s development.

“Joe has been around for a while now, he’s still young but he’s been one of our best players this season and that’s a credit to him for how well he’s settled in,” he added.

“I think his improvement is down to how hard he worked when he was out of the side, he was doing little bits with the coaching staff and it’s easy to see how much he’s come on.

“We’re all learning from each other regardless of age, myself and Joe take information from each other and he’s a joy to play alongside.”
