Manager Darren Ferguson has urged his side to concentrate on their own game ahead of Saturday’s Sky Bet League One fixture against Southend United.
The Shrimpers have won four out of their past five league games, and Ferguson says Phil Brown’s men will be tricky opponents to face after their recent form.
“They have had a strange season so far, they won their first game of the season against Blackburn and they were very impressive, then they went through a stage of eight or nine games without a win,” he said.
“They are a very experienced squad with a very experienced manager in Phil Brown and have found a formula that has won them three out of the last three games. But we are focusing on us this weekend, on what we dcan do better, so it’s about how we perform on Saturday.”
Rovers have been working hard to add to their two wins that they have accumulated so far in the league this season, and Ferguson believes that his side have the quality to turn it around.
“I think we need to improve at the top end of the pitch, I have watched a lot of videos back and we have had too many blanks, there are a lot of reasons for that, whether it’s the cross, shot or finish and we have improve,” he added.
“We have been unhappy with the goals we have conceded, and if you look through the games this season we have lost a lot through set-pieces that needs to stop.
“We need to keep believing and to get our performances to a certain standard, we are not far off and I think we did a lot of good things against Bradford last time out.”
