Coppinger says Rovers must learn

27 October 2017

James Coppinger believes that Rovers must learn from the games which haven’t gone their way this season in order to improve in Sky Bet League One.

The captain has won promotion from this division twice in his career, and knows what it takes to perform at a consistent level throughout the season.

He said: “Concentration is massive and something we talk about a lot, the higher in football you go the more you have to concentrate in games.

“We’ve got a really young squad so it’s about them learning quickly, there’s only three or four players who have played a lot of games in this division.

“I’ve been successful in this league before and that was with a squad full of experience so that shows just how difficult it can be for some of the young lads in the team at the minute.”

Rovers are looking to get back to winning ways with a trip to Bury this weekend, and Coppinger is confident that the team have what it takes to take three points on the road.

“We need to find a balance between playing well and picking up results, sometimes you have to sacrifice the performance for just getting three points,” he added.

“We are where we are for a reason, performances haven’t been bad but the simple fact is that we haven’t picked up enough points.

“We don’t want to let ourselves down, when we lose games it’s all about how we can react to those defeats and that’s something we were good at last season.”

Rovers return to the Keepmoat Stadium on Tuesday October 31 as they face Scunthorpe United in the Checkatrade Trophy. Get your tickets from the Club Doncaster Box Office, call 01302 762576 or go to tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk
