First driving community engagement

10 October 2017

Club Doncaster Foundation has partnered with bus operator First South Yorkshire to gift 1,000 DNA Cards, Season Memberships and bus passes to local community groups and schools.

DNA Cards are included as part of Season Memberships at Doncaster Rovers FC or available as a standalone product for £20, but the new partnership has committed £30,000 so that young people engaged in Club Doncaster Foundation activities in the area can attend local matches and enjoy discounts from the DNA Card. The local young people will also be able to enjoy one week’s free bus travel across South Yorkshire.

The 1,000 tickets, cards and passes available will be distributed across a range of local groups including National Citizen Service, KICKS volunteering programme, students of Club Doncaster Sports College and local schools in Doncaster, all projects delivering targeted interventions to more than 4,000 individuals per year and growing.

This funding enhances programmes such as KICKS - giving young people access to free organised football sessions, alongside volunteering opportunities to further support, develop and increase participation levels for young people across Doncaster.

Jim Lord, executive director at Club Doncaster Foundation, said: “We have developed a wonderful partnership with First Group that adds genuine value to the extensive work of both Club Doncaster Foundation and Club Doncaster Sports College. Young people across Doncaster that get involved in our programmes now have the chance to regularly watch both the Rovers and Dons and also benefit from a broad range of discounts on a local, regional and national basis.”

The partnership between Club Doncaster Foundation and First South Yorkshire was born out of a collective mission to encourage more youngsters to travel by bus.

Allan Riggall, head of commercial at First South Yorkshire, said: “We’re proud to support the communities that we operate within and so we’re pleased to be working in partnership with Club Doncaster. By using our network, young people can benefit from unlimited bus travel, for just £6 per week – and we hope to welcome more young people on board throughout the remainder of this year.”
