Gibbons joy at Keepmoat Stadium strike

27 October 2017

Lifelong Rovers fan Myron Gibbons fulfilled a childhood dream after scoring a winning FA Cup goal on the Keepmoat Stadium pitch.

Gibbons came off the bench to seal a comeback as Rovers' U18 side reached the second round of the FA Youth Cup with a 4-3 win over Walsall’s Academy side on Thursday night.

Gibbons said: “It’s incredible, I’m absolutely buzzing and I can’t stop smiling. I support Rovers so it’s a great experience to play on the Keepmoat Stadium having watched the team here since I was a kid.

“It was an amazing feeling to walk out onto the pitch where all the senior professionals play, and I’d love a home draw. I didn’t think it was over if we kept pushing, when the second goal went in I definitely thought we could come back and get the win.”

Gibbons is in his first year as a scholar at Rovers, after coming into the club’s system as a schoolboy.

He added: “I used to play in Sunday league for my local side Bentley, and a few of the lads were here watching.

“I had a month out with an ankle ligaments injury, but I’ve had some good game time, featured for the Development side and scored my first goal of the season for the U18s against Hartlepool.”

Rovers return to the Keepmoat Stadium on Tuesday October 31 as they face Scunthorpe United in the Checkatrade Trophy. Get your tickets from the Club Doncaster Box Office, call 01302 762576 or go to tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk
