Rovers U18s 2-1 Hartlepool United U18s

17 October 2017

U18s assistant manager Paul Driver reckons Rovers’ U18s first win of the season – a 2-1 success over Hartlepool United on Saturday – is one of many to come.

A bright start from Rovers didn’t pay off as in the early stages as they conceded when Pools captain Jacob Owen headed in from a corner.

The Rovers youngsters did respond in the second-half when substitute Jack Watson scored with a sublime strike from the edge of the box.

Rovers kept on pressing from there but it looked like it wasn’t going to be Rovers’ day when a miscommunication between James Leverton and Kane Bingley led to a foul on Hartlepool’s attacker, earning them a penalty.

Up stepped Owen, but Leverton for down to the bottom-left corner to save.

Rovers eventually Rovers earnt their win through Danny Amos when he scored his free-kick from the edge of the box.

Driver said: “Even with the penalty save that’s against the run of play, I thought we deserved a win.

"We’ve worked hard throughout the season, especially in the last few weeks, and it’s been coming. Hopefully it’s the first of many now they have got that feeling.”
