Rowe pleased with win

18 October 2017

Midfielder Tommy Rowe was delighted that Rovers got back to winning ways after a 2-1 victory against Portsmouth at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Two goals in the opening five minutes from Liam Mandeville and Tommy Rowe respectively set Rovers on their way, and Rowe says that the corner routine which saw the side double their lead is something they have worked on in training.

“We are delighted with the three points, we needed to bounce back after Saturday’s result because it was a tough one to take, but could not produce the quality,” said Rowe.

“We started brightly in the opening 20/25 minutes was a real positive, my goal took a bit of a deflection and ended up in the back of the net which is pleasing because it’s something we’ve worked on in training.

“The early goal set us off going really and gave us the confidence to continue the way we were playing, it was a great corner from Harry Toffolo and thankfully the header went in.”

Rowe played alongside Rodney Kongolo and Jordan Houghton in a midfield three and the former Peterborough United man said that he enjoyed playing in a more attacking role.

“I have always really enjoyed playing in that position, there were two or three times we played that formation last year and I feel like I can express myself a little bit better,” said Rowe.

“We knew if we got it right tonight that we would cause them a lot of problems early on and that’s what we did, they had a big lad up front and two fast lads in behind and we did well to keep them quiet.

“The most important thing now is the game on Saturday, we will not be celebrating this like it’s anything too special and we will make sure that we are switched on for the game against Walsall on Saturday.”
