Stancliffe proud of Amos call

4 October 2017

Doncaster Rovers U18s coach Paul Stancliffe says defender Danny Amos deserves his call-up to the Northern Ireland U19 side.

The defender, a second-year scholar at the club, is getting his first taste of international action this week as the Northern Irish youngsters bid to reach the final round of qualifying for the European Championship.

They will line up against qualifying tournament hosts Poland on Wednesday, before taking on Germany and Belarus.

Amos signed off for Rovers with an impressive performance as the U18s were beaten 2-1 at Chesterfield on Saturday, catching the eye despite the result.

Stancliffe said: “I’m proud and pleased for him - he’s done all the work himself.

“As a coach you can put things into player’s minds you work on their technical ability but at the end of the day it’s what they want to do, if they want to take things on board they’ve got the attitude to do it and, to be fair, Danny does.

“He’s got a great attitude towards work and I’m absolutely delighted for him.”
