Gavin Strachan has been impressed by the performances of the younger players in the Rovers squad in Sky Bet League One this season.
The likes of Joe Wright, Niall Mason and Ben Whiteman have all played the majority of games so far, while still earning their stripes in the EFL.
Strachan said: “It’s easy to forget just how young a lot of our squad is, for any young player the aim is to achieve consistency and there are a few who are doing that.
“Young players want to come here because we have a manager who has proved in the past that he will give them a chance if they prove they’re good enough.
“We demand off the young players that they have to learn and become streetwise, they need to learn the tricks of the trade as that’s how you get the positive results.”
Rovers face Walsall at the Keepmoat Stadium this weekend looking to make it three home league wins in a row, and Strachan is expecting another tough game on home soil.
“They’ve had to come from behind in their past couple of games so that would suggest they have good character in the team,” he added.
“They had a tough first half against MK Dons the other night but managed to turn it around and have some really good players at their disposal.
“A lot of teams in this league have won a few games and lost a few as well, we’ve not quite managed to get on a run yet but we feel like we’re on the verge of doing that now.”
