Strachan wants players to impress

30 October 2017

Gavin Strachan wants Rovers’ fringe players to make an impact in the Checkatrade Trophy game against Scunthorpe United.

Rovers are unbeaten in two games in the competition this season, and Strachan says there is always an opportunity for players to impress.

“There will be players playing who have different aims, the majority will be to impress the manager and force their way into his plans,” he said.

“We’re looking for positive performances from players who haven’t quite had their chance yet this season, as management staff we want players to catch our eye and impress us.

“We really like the Checkatrade Trophy because of what we’ve got from it over the past couple of seasons and that is something we’re looking to continue.”

The winner of the game against Scunthorpe will finish top of the group and guarantee themselves a home tie in the next round.

“Scunthorpe have been putting out strong teams in this competition so it will be good for everyone involved as the younger lads can really test themselves,” Strachan added.

“We want to carry on winning games, it’s a great habit to get used to so the more wins we can pick up the more everyone within the squad will benefit from it.

“The win is always the most important thing for us in whatever competition we play in, we want some positive performances from the players involved.”

Tickets are just £10 for adults for the game against Scunthorpe United at the Keepmoat Stadium. They can be purchased from the Club Doncaster Box Office, on 01302 762576, or at tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk
