Confidence high for Whiteman

22 September 2017

Ben Whiteman believes the quality within the Rovers squad will see them get back to winning ways against Plymouth Argyle this weekend.

Rovers were beaten by Arsenal in the Carabao Cup third round in midweek, but Whiteman says the team can take a lot of confidence from the way they performed at the Emirates Stadium.

“It was an unbelievable opportunity for all the boys, it’s a Premier League stadium with Premier League players and you want to test yourselves against the best and I thought we did very well in the circumstances,” Whiteman said.

“Everything about it was a step up, Per Mertesacker is a World Cup winner and Alexis Sanchez has been linked with big moves away, it’s a cut above but we held our own.”

The Rovers team are staying down south ahead of the weekend’s trip to Devon, and while the surroundings might be different, Whiteman says the approach to the game won’t change.

“It is obviously different staying away but the lads are professional, we do normally have a day off and do our recovery ourselves like going into the pool to get ready for the game on Saturday,” he added.

“There have been good performances throughout the season, we just need that little bit of luck and maybe a bit of composure and hopefully we can get that and get some momentum going.

“When you look at it we aren’t in bad form but we need that luck to be able to turn our fortunes around, we are a confident group with a lot of belief in ourselves and we look forward to every game that we play.”
