Ferguson delighted with Argyle win

24 September 2017

Darren Ferguson was delighted with his players after Rovers got back to winning ways with a convincing 3-0 victory over Plymouth Argyle at Home Park.

Goals from Andy Butler, John Marquis and Alfie May sealed the three points in Devon, and the manager believes his side managed the game well.

“I’m delighted with a lot of aspects of the win, we got a clean sheet and scored three goals. We could have probably had more given the chances we created,” he said.

“They didn’t have a shot on target so that shows how well we defended as a unit, it was a good day all round.

“This win has been coming, now we’ve got to find some consistency and look to put a run of good results together as that is always important in being successful.”

Rovers were dominant from start to finish against Argyle, and Ferguson says that getting the first goal was always going to be crucial.

“The stats show that the first goal in most games is very important, we spoke about that before the game and managed to get it, that’s four times this season that we’ve scored three goals in a game,” he added.

“We had to show grit and determination in the first half as it wasn’t a great spectacle, but once we went ahead we stepped it up a level and were much better on the ball.

“Clean sheets are important as well, we know that if we keep it tight at the back then we’ve got players at the other end of the pitch that will score goals.”
