Ferguson relishing Scunthorpe test

15 September 2017

Darren Ferguson wants his players to play with more composure ahead of this weekend’s local derby against Scunthorpe United at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Having drawn all three home games so far this season, Ferguson is keen for his side to turn positive performances into results, starting with the game against the Iron.

“It’s a big game at the weekend, it’s a derby and a chance for us to get back to winning ways at home in front of what should be a good crowd,” he said.

“We have to find a balance between keeping the belief within the side but also making it clear to them why these things are happening and where we can improve.

“We want to rise to the occasion for a derby game but at the same time I want my team to play with composure.”

Ferguson is expecting a tough test from last season’s beaten play-off semi-finalists, and is hoping the home crowd can play a part in earning the three points for Rovers.

“We’ll have to play well to get the win, my players need to be on top of their game in order to get the three points as Scunthorpe are a good side at this level,” he added.

“It’s a derby and it will be a good crowd with a good atmosphere, we’ve got quality in our team and when we’re at it we are a match for any team in this league.

“We need to do the things that are required in a derby, we want to get the fans off their seats but we need to play with the ability we’ve got and stick to the game plan.”
