Ferguson wants momentum

22 September 2017

Darren Ferguson is hoping his side can take some momentum from the display at Arsenal into this weekend’s Sky Bet League Two fixture against Plymout Arygle.

Rovers were narrowly beaten twice by Arygle last season, and Ferguson is expecting another tough test from Derek Adams’ side.

“They’ve played different formations this season, but there won’t be too much change from last season in the way they played against us they’ll be happy to give the ball up and they’ll be happy for us to have the majority of possession then play on the counter attack,” he said.

“I’ve got a good idea in my mind of the team I want to play, but last night hopefully gives us more belief and a bit more conviction, but it’s an important game on Saturday and if we get the result then it’s been a really good week, when you look at the second half at Arsenal then look to get a result at Plymouth.

“After that we can have a little breather and then we go again Tuesday, so it’s an important game as everyone knows but we aren’t far away and it’s the fine margins and if we get that right then we will start winning games again.”

Rovers are looking to get back to winning in the league and Ferguson believes the second half performance at Arsenal can give the side a boost in confidence.

“The second half was very good and I’ve watched it a couple times now and I thought the performance was very good,” he added.

“The initial part of the game was as difficult as I thought it was going to be because the lads were nervous, but the reaction to going behind was excellent and watching it back we really should’ve got something.

“If you look at the positives, the fans were excellent last night and had a good night and I hope they saw the effort and performance that the lads put in and it was important for the players to see that and it was important for the fans to see such a good performance.”
