Ferguson wants reaction

11 September 2017

Manager Darren Ferguson will be looking for a reaction from his players at Rochdale on Tuesday.

Rovers were beaten 1-0 at Northampton Town on Saturday and travel to the Crown Oil Arena to face a Dale side without a win so far this season.

Ferguson knows that his team will have to start the game a lot better than they did at the weekend, after conceding after just 21 seconds, but, with changes set to be made, is confident Rovers can bounce back.

“I thought we were much better in the second half at the weekend, and Copps came on and played very well, I was pleased with his performance, and hopefully him and the team can come away from that and perform like that,” Ferguson said.

“We’ve had a good training day and are all ready for the game, the players are in good spirits and we know what we need to change, certain things I’ve seen I need to change within the squad, but I’ve got good numbers.

“All the stats are positive towards us, apart from the main one which is scoring more goals a game, we can’t keep saying we should’ve done this and could’ve done that, we need to do it, and the boys have it in them.”

Ferguson is happy with the squad that is available to him, and feels that whatever team he puts out, they will be capable of getting three points.

“Houghton is ready to start, he breezed through 90 minutes in the development game last week, and did well again on Saturday, we can start looking at that and there are no issues for him to play,” he added.

“We’ve got five games in 21 days, I have to be mindful on who I play, that’s why James didn’t start on Saturday. There’ll be some players that will have to play every game, but I’ve got some tough decisions to make, and that’s a good thing.

“Things can change very quickly, a couple of wins can change it completely. We can’t let results have too much of an effect on us, there hasn’t been a team better than us in any game we’ve played, and I’ve got some good players who haven’t had an opportunity yet too so we have it in us.”
