Houghton delighted with Rovers return

12 September 2017

Jordan Houghton is pleased to be back in Doncaster after his return on loan from Chelsea on deadline day.

Houghton spent most of last season with Rovers, helping them to earn promotion back to Sky Bet League One, before a knee injury against Luton Town in February cut short his time in South Yorkshire.

It was the fans that were one of the factors for Houghton’s return, though, and he thanked them for all the support they provided during his recovery.

“From a human being’s point of view, to have all the support from all these people that don’t know you personally, it is nice to see and looking through all the messages from all the Donny fans,” Houghton said.

“I didn’t really expect to get all the reception from the fans when I sat in the stands, I might not have been the best omen looking at the results when I went, but I’m a football fan and I wanted to be in with the atmosphere.

“It was a good experience to be sat with them, and one of the main factors of me coming back was the fans. They’ve shown me a lot of support and they made it clear that they wanted me back, and I’m glad to be back.”

Houghton was also grateful for all the messages and support from his teammates and the Rovers staff, too, and was full of praise for them all what was a difficult period of his young career.

“It was a long recovery and I really enjoyed my time here, and so I was more than grateful for the opportunity to come back, it was difficult, I might have missed a few games at the start but I’m here now and I’m ready,” he said.

“The manager and the staff and the players were really good throughout the whole of my rehab, it wasn’t just asking about me coming back, but making sure I was alright and everything was going well, not just from a playing point of view but personally too.

“That was something that played in the back of my mind, the fact that they didn’t just forget about me and kept in touch and that was a nice little thing for me to see from them all.”
