Doncaster Rovers youngster Danny Amos has been added to the Northern Ireland U19 squad for the upcoming European Championship qualifying tournament.
The 17-year-old defender featured in several of Rovers’ matchday squads in the 2016/17 campaign, making one first-team appearance.
He will spend a week with Stephen Frail’s U19 side for the tournament, which is being staged in Poland, with the aim of finishing in the top two in order to reach the final round of qualifying.
Rovers head of Academy Kieran Scarff said: “This is an excellent reward for Danny’s hard work, he can be hugely proud of this call-up and we all wish him well as he heads to Poland for the week.
“This is a sign of the real progress we’re making as a club and is recognition for the level of work being carried out within the Academy. The addition of a development squad this season, alongside the daily work with the first team players and support from academy and first team staff is helping lads like Danny progress and test themselves against senior players.”
Frail’s U19 side will take on Poland, Germany and Belarus in the tournament, starting with taking on hosts Poland in Gliwice on Wednesday October 4 (4pm KO).
They will then take on Germany, again in Gliwice, on Saturday October 7 (12noon KO) before facing Belarus in Chorzow on Tuesday October 10 (6pm KO).
Danny is one of two Rovers players on international duty, with on-loan Manchester City midfielder Rodney Kongolo in the provisional Netherlands U20 squad for friendlies against Germany on Thursday October 5 and Poland on Sunday October 9 which means he may be unavailable for the home game against Southend United.
Rovers are back in action at the Keepmoat Stadium when they host Sunderland U21 on Tuesday then Southend United on Saturday. Get your tickets now from the Club Doncaster Box Office on 01302 762576 or by going to tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk.
