Plenty of positives for Ferguson

3 September 2017

Darren Ferguson felt there were plenty of positives for Rovers as they became the first side to avoid losing to Peterborough in Sky Bet League One this season.

The goalless draw at the Keepmoat Stadium ended Posh’s winning start to the season, while also extended Rovers’ impressive opening which has seen just one defeat in eight competitive games.

Ferguson said: “I’m always disappointed if we don’t win at home, and I certainly don’t want a sense of satisfaction if we draw at home - no matter who we are playing - but there are a lot of positives from a game against a team doing really well.

“We caused them problems. The big area I felt was important was the middle of the pitch, and our central midfield players dominated that area in the early part of the game. The three centre halves and the goalkeeper were outstanding.”

Ferguson believes his squad are good enough to do well this season, but knows the players and staff need to work hard to translate that into positive results.

He added: “It was important to get a reaction after the loss at AFC Wimbledon, the key to any season is to be consistent. Up to now Peterborough have been the most in the league, if we are consistent like we were at times here and in some earlier games like Blackburn then we’ll do well.

“I’ve no doubt we’ve got the ability, we just need to find consistency. We’ve played eight games, and one defeat, so we’ve had an ok start. I look around my dressing room and I’ve got some good players in there, and I hope the players believe that as well.”

Rovers are back in action at the Keepmoat Stadium on Sunday September 17 when Scunthorpe United visit. Secure your spot for the game, or the visits to Northampton Town, Rochdale or Arsenal now at tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk.
