Rowe pleased with start

1 September 2017

Tommy Rowe is enjoying his second full season with Rovers and is happy with the way himself and his team-mates have started.

Rowe got off the mark last week against Hull City in the Carabao Cup, and despite the weekend’s defeat at AFC Wimbledon, Rowe reckons that the standards have been good so far.

“Overall, it has been very positive, take away last week and it’s been a very good start for us, against Wimbledon as a team we weren’t good enough.” Rowe said.

“You can’t perform like that and expect anything more than a defeat, our standards are a lot higher and that’s what we set them as, it is something to learn from and work on.

“The start to the season has been positive, I went down to Grimsby on Tuesday night and the boys that played were fantastic for a young team playing good football.”

Rowe comes up against  former club in Peterborough United this weekend, a team where he enjoyed a successful spell at London Road which included a goal in a League One play-off final win  against Huddersfield in 2011.

“I enjoyed my time at Peterborough and I’ve got a lot of respect for the club, but I want to get the three points for us on Saturday,” Rowe said.

“We always set up well as a defensive unit, we try to be hard to break down and that will be key for us, it’s all about being patience and sticking to the game plan that we have set up.

“The way they play has got them a lot of success and we’ve got to find a way to combat that, they’ll look to get forward as fast as they can.”
