Midfielder Tommy Rowe wants to be more ruthless despite scoring his first league goal of the 2017/18 campaign against Shrewsbury Town at the Keepmoat Stadium.
The midfielder netted first for Rovers before two goals from the visitors saw the Shrews run out with all three points, but Rowe believes his sides had enough chances to take something from the game.
“I am happy to get on the scoresheet but it doesn’t mean much when you lose, we need to be more ruthless in both boxes and that’s something we need to work on,” he said.
“We caused their two defenders a lot of problems, Alfie May was running all over and John Marquis over the last couple of games has been brilliant with his physical presence.
“The Arsenal game was great for us as it gave us a lot of confidence, which we took into the Plymouth game, but unfortunately we couldn’t take it into the game against Shrewsbury as well.”
Rovers were undone by a last minute winner from Arthur Gnahoua, and Rowe says there were a lot of positives in the game despite the result.
“As a team we need to do a lot of work, we will try not to dwell on it too much, we will have a look back on the video, but it is not all doom and gloom, we did a lot of things quite well,” he added.
“We were looking for the winner late on, we don’t settle for a point at home and we want to win games, we just have to make sure we look back on it and see where we went wrong.
“We worked really hard this week and the feeling within the dressing room is disappointment, we have let down ourselves, the management and the fans.”
