Wright stepping up

29 September 2017

Joe Wright is enjoying having a regular run in the Rovers side after starting every competitive game so far this season.

The central defender has stepped in for the injured Mathieu Baudry, and feels as though he has improved as a player after a stop-start 2016/17 campaign.

“Last year when I was out the side it gave me a lot of time to develop my own game, I did a lot of work with Gavin Strachan who helped me a lot so it was spending that time out to learn as much as I could and improve,” he said.

“I might have benefitted from playing more games but I spent as much time as I could to improve myself and now I’m reaping the rewards of that.

“I beat myself up a lot about some of the mistakes I made last season, but my target has always been to play as much as I can and if you’re still in the team then it means that you must be doing well so it’s going well for me on a personal level.”

Rovers face Bradford City away on Saturday, and having started in the first round win there in the Carabao Cup, Wright is looking forward to another tough test against the Bantams.

“We are all looking forward to playing in front of a big crowd, as a player you relish playing in front of a big crowd and hopefully we can go there and get a win,” he added.

“It’s something we did earlier in the season at Blackburn where we got control of the game in the early stages and that helped silence their crowd so we will look to do that again.

“We’ve always been in games this season, and barring the Wimbledon game, all the games we have lost have been by one goal, the performances have been good and as soon as we get a win and we can click then we can go on a run.”

Getting a Bronze Membership is a cost-effective way of watching Rovers this season. You can get up to £4 off the cost of home games, as well as get priority for cup games. Bronze Memberships cost a one-off fee of just £10. You can purchase from the Box Office at the Keepmoat Stadium, by calling 01302 762576 or going to tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk.
