Amos' delight at league debut clean sheet

29 April 2018

Danny Amos says he was delighted to be a part of a defence that kept a clean sheet in Rovers’ goalless draw at Oldham Athletic.

Amos played 90 minutes on his league debut during the 0-0 draw in Sky Bet League One, and he says he now wants to push on and get more game time under his belt.

“It was excellent to be involved, we played well, I’ve helped to keep a clean sheet, which everyone at the back is delighted about, it was a very good start for us and hopefully we can take that into Tuesday and get the win we’ve been looking for,” he said.

“We pushed Oldham and unfortunately it just didn’t pay off for us, but we’re going to be working hard over the next couple of days before our next game and then kick on ready for Wigan on the final day.

“There was a lot on my shoulders here, but that’s all part of the learning curve, obviously when you’re a young lad you take it in and do as much as you can, try and be the best player on the pitch.”

Amos has made a handful of appearances over the last couple of seasons in the Checkatrade Trophy for Rovers, but he says he was always going to be ready to make the step up into league action.

“It was an unbelievable feeling, there were no nerves in the lead up to the game, I’m proud of myself for getting in the side, it’s a proud moment for my family and my friends and I’m just so happy to be involved,” he added.

“The gaffer pulled me in on Friday morning before our meeting, I was shocked but relieved to get my chance in the first-team, I had a little feeling I might get in but I wanted to hear it from the gaffer’s mouth.

“I can only thank the gaffer and Gavin Strachan for all their support and the help they have given me, and now they have given me the opportunity of a chance in the first-team and I want to kick on now.”
