Baudry: Best is yet to come

10 April 2018

Mathieu Baudry feels that Rovers fans are yet to see the best of him as he reflects on his second season with the club.

The French defender signed from Leyton Orient in the summer of 2016, but has missed both pre-seasons and the early part of both campaigns with the club due to injury, and Baudry believes he can bring a lot more to the side.

“As a player you feel like you bring something to the team, I think you’ve only seen a little bit of what I can do while I’ve been here because I’ve been injured for both pre-seasons and you don’t feel as sharp when you come back in initially,” he said.

“I think I’ve done alright still, but I’m looking forward to having an off-season where I can put some graft in and hopefully show people more of what I can do.

“I won’t change who I am as a player and I have to play on my attributes and my qualities, that’s what I do, I try to stay calm and hopefully that can transpire to the people around me, just try to stay calm and composed, win my battles and do well for the team.”

Rovers have eight games left in their first season back in Sky Bet League One, and Baudry feels that there is something special within the squad that can help them to push on next year.

“The gaffer is keen on us just focusing, if we can keep doing that then even if we maintain momentum and don’t make it into the play-offs, it’s momentum for next season because it’s always better when you finish in the top half,” he added.

“I have never played in the Championship before, I feel I am capable and I think I am ready and I think we share that belief that this team can go far, and you never know what can happen with a good end to this season setting us up for the next one.

“You never know what might happen with a good run, we’ve seen it before with teams going on runs at the end of the season, but it’s a cliché and we are just taking each game as it comes.”
