Baudry calls for a strong finish

6 April 2018

Mathieu Baudry is confident that his teammates can have a strong end to the season as they prepare for a long trip to Kent to face Gillingham this weekend.

Rovers travel to MEMS Priestfield Stadium on Saturday looking to build on back-to-back wins over Bradford City and Blackpool, and Baudry believes the team can set themselves up for next year with a good finish to this season.

“It’ll be a difficult place to go, they’ve just lost 4-0, so they’ll be bang up for it, at this stage of the season every game is a difficult one and every team is playing for something different,” he said.

“It’s been frustrating not playing because we’ve been in such good form recently, we are hoping to carry it on now and we’ve been working well so it only gives us more time to get ready for this game.

“We will look to go full steam and then rest between games, there will be no let up until we know that the job is done, we have to give everything on the pitch for this last month.”

The Frenchman has been a key figure at the back for Rovers this campaign, and he feels that he has helped his younger teammates to develop this year.

“I think the communication between the defence has been a lot better, people forget how young players like Joe Wright, Niall Mason, Luke McCullough and Jordan Houghton actually are and they are listening on the pitch and it’s been great,” he added.

“We’ve learned to be less naïve, a lot of it is down to confidence, we have some great young players here, I think the recent wins have helped us and we’ve started to believe what we can achieve as a team.

“I think it bodes well for next season, there was a lot of changes around the football club when I first came in and now it seems settled, we just need that bit of belief in ourselves and I think that is starting to show.”
