Boss content with a point

Darren Ferguson was happy to get a point after Tuesday night’s 3-3 draw with Bury at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Goals from Andy Butler and John Marquis saw Rovers take an lead, before a resurgence from the visitors nearly saw them leave with all three points, however an Andy Boyle’s late leveller secured Rovers a draw, and Ferguson believes it was a good point.

“You’ll never get a better opportunity when you’re 2-0 up to get a good result and see the game through, we should’ve won the game comfortably, but the moment Bury got back into the game we lost all composure, and in the end it’s a good point,” he said.

“The game became so open and whilst we didn’t want a point at the start of the game, especially as we started it so well, it’s a very good point, we spoke about starting aggressively and Butts scored early doors.

“We controlled the game early on, and when it got to 2-0, we just had to be disciplined and see the game out, but from the moment we lost the goal just before the break we lost all of that which is a shame.”

Boyle’s equaliser on 68 minutes ensured that Rovers retained their recent unbeaten run, which now stretches to six games, and Ferguson says they can take a lot out of their recent form.

“I won’t get carried away with the run we’ve been on, but we’ve lost the three in 19 and you have to put that into perspective and remember that, but the players have got to finish the season as strongly as possible,” Ferguson added.

“We always felt we might have an outside chance of sneaking into the play-offs, and in my own mind that’s what I was thinking, you keep winning your games and see where it takes you with that momentum.

“We need all the support we can get, we have five games to go and we’re sitting on 54 points, we just have to keep on picking up as many points as we can before now and the end of the season, and then we can take the momentum into next season.”
