Boss plots strong finish to season

9 April 2018

Darren Ferguson says his side will be looking to build on their excellent defensive display by backing it up with more goals at the other end.

The Rovers defence held firm to keep their fourth clean sheet in six games at Gillingham on Saturday, with chances at the other end going begging for Ferguson’s side, but the manager believes hard work in training ensures goals will come.

“We couldn’t get a rhythm to us after the break at Gillingham,, but we’ve had two great chances to win the game, Mathieu Baudry’s volley wasn’t far away and Alfie May should score in added time, but we will put it right,” he said.

“We’ve not made the right decisions in the final third, we haven’t been able to find that final pass or shot, and when we’ve tried to go on the counter attack we couldn’t quite create anything.

“We do a lot in training with the strikers getting them into different scenarios and we’re trying our best to implement that in games, and we’re going to be working hard in training to make those chances count next week.”

Rovers have a week break now before heading south once more to face Milton Keynes Dons on Saturday, and Ferguson is looking to put a good run together to finish the season on a high.

“We know we have a tough period coming up with the amount of games that we have left to play, we dusted ourselves down for this one and we will do exactly the same ahead of next week,” he added.

“We’re looking up and wanting to get as high up the table as we can, I’m satisfied with the position we are in currently, but we can still push on and put ourselves in a better position, there are still 21 points to play for.

“We have to make sure we freshen things up now, we’re at that point of the season where fatigue can kick in, we need to look at it, but we need to kick on, we go again next week looking for three points and see where that takes us.”
