Rowe targets three points

1 April 2018

Tommy Rowe says Rovers will be looking to right a wrong as they prepare to face AFC Wimbledon at the Keepmoat Stadium on Bank Holiday Monday.

Rovers suffered their first defeat of the season to the Wombles at the end of August, and Rowe feels his teammates will be looking to avenge the 2-0 reverse at Kingsmeadow.

“The defeat to Wimbledon back in August hurt us a lot, it was a poor performance from us and it was a real shock to the system because we went into the game with the intention to start off really well like we always do,” he said.

“We never really got going and didn’t get our foot in the game, we encouraged them to come at us really and the goals were sloppy, we could never really recover from that, and it was one of our worst performances for a long time, but we are looking to make amends.

“We learnt from that and we came back stronger for it, hopefully we can start a lot brighter and that won’t occur again, and we will look for a similar result to the Blackpool game against Wimbledon.”

The fixture with the Wombles is the first of seven for Rovers in April, and Rowe believes that the freshness of players coming back into contention will only help the side.

“It’s going to be an exciting final eight games of the season with everyone coming back into the side, we have some great players at this club and we are all moving in the same direction and that is to get us over the line,” Rowe added.

“The gaffer brought me in and I went straight into the side, it was similar at Peterborough, but you’re always going to have someone that wants to get the shirt off your back and that’s the philosophy we have at this club, the players coming back will push everybody on.

“Obviously we want to finish as high as we can now, that’s no secret and we owe it to everyone at the club to finish as high as possible, we want to push on really and we have another game on Monday to keep the run going.”
