Whiteman wants strong finish

27 April 2018

Ben Whiteman says Rovers are pushing to finish as strongly as possible ahead of Saturday’s game with Oldham Athletic.

Rovers have three games left in Sky Bet League One, and Whiteman believes they can take heart from recent performances in order to push them over the line.

“We just need to stick to what we’ve been doing, we’ve coped well against some good sides recently and held our own, and hopefully we can take all of that to Oldham on Saturday and go for the three points,” he said.

“We have to be more clinical in front of goal, we’ve had some great chances in the last couple of games, but I don’t think you can take anything away from the recent performances that we’ve been putting in.

“We have three games left and we need to give it our all, the management have set us a target of reaching the 60-point mark, that means getting two wins and we all feel that we can do that.”

Rovers travel to Oldham at the weekend, with the hosts currently in the bottom four, and Whiteman says the situation over the Pennines won’t affect Rovers’ style of play.

“It doesn’t matter who you play, we know we have to implement our style of play on the game from the off, I think we’ve been a close match for anyone in this league, we just have to keep playing as a team and those chances will come,” he added.

“The management staff look after us very well, obviously now it’s different with all the data and stuff that we get, that shows about what we do during games, we have to reach specific targets as an individual to keep improving as a side, and we will continue that on Saturday.

“We’ve had a few games in hand over the teams around us and we’ve been unfortunate where we’ve let results slip and then others where we’ve come so close, but hopefully we can kick on for the final three games.”
