Coppinger and former Rovers stars in charity tournament

James Coppinger will join a host of former Rovers players in a five-a-side tournament on Sunday to raise money for a Rovers fan who is fighting cancer.

The competition will take place at the A1 Football Factory in Pontefract, and will help the family of Scott Richardson who is in the final stages of his fight against cancer.

Scott is a big Rovers fan and was present at the home friendly against Sheffield United, where fans of both sides chanted his name after 28 minutes.

Coppinger will lead a five-a-side team against others overseen by by former players Paul Green, JJ Price, Tim Ryan and Dave Penney.

Ricky Ravenhill, Jan Budtz, Simon Marples and Andy Warrington are also among the former Rovers stars lining up.

The competition starts at 2.30pm, with the final scheduled for just after 4.30pm - when one side will claim the Scott Richardson Trophy.

The event is part of a a family fun day, with live music in the Players' Sports Bar after the tournament.

Coppinger is also donating a unique shirt which will be auctioned off to raise money for Scott's family.

The shirt is a montage of all the home league shirts worn during his time at the club, and will be a unique collector's item.
