Rovers U18s continued their unbeaten start to the season as they held Premier League side Huddersfield Town to a 1-1 draw at Canalside.

Stancliffe made just one change to the side that beat Oldham 3-1 on the opening weekend as Martin Smith Jr made way for Cameron Baldock-Smith.

Rovers were quick to apply the pressure on the young Terriers as full-back Branden Horton cut into the left-hand-side to provide a ball across the face of goal – Watson met this but hit it just over Giosue Bellagambi’s goal.

They maintained this high-pressured game with Rieves Boocock taking it quickly, releasing Gibbons down the left-hand side but the home keeper was out quickly to smother the ball.

It was all Rovers, though, with visiting Declan Ogley not forced into action until 30 minutes had past when clipping the ball around his left-hand post with his feet.

Myron Gibbons fired just over the crossbar after Rovers threatened with a counter-attack just after the restart.

Bellagambi had to be alert to tip Will McGowan’s curling free-kick over with a fingertip save.

The Deadlock was broken when Cameron Barnett produced a delivery across the face of goal and a Huddersfield defender handled the ball in the area.

Boocock stepped up to take and calmly converted down the middle, sending Bellagambi to his right.

The lead was not enough to claim all three points, though, as Huddersfield won a penalty of their own after Baldock-Smith committed a foul on an opposing attacker.

Ogley pulled off an outstanding save to deny Sam Peplow – diving towards his right post.

But the ball came back out to the edge of the area where Peplow was able to capitalise on the rebound and buried it in the back of the net to claim a point for the Terriers.
