John Marquis says Mallik Wilks is keen to learn off the more experienced players within the Rovers squad.

The 19-year-old made a goalscoring start to life in League One doubling Rovers’ lead against Southend on Saturday, and Marquis says it was a solid debut from the forward.

“He’ll probably get bored of the same voice telling him what to do all the time, but that is why we have good players such as Copping, Butler, Rowe, Blair and they will help him,” he said.

“When I was younger I had a lot of help, it is not to change his game or anything like that, it’s just learning and getting better, I will also learn off him too, whether you are 19 or 39 we all want to do well.

“He is someone that wants to learn and get better, and at the end of the day as long as he is scoring goals that’s all that matters, it was a great debut for him.”

Rovers are looking to build on this victory when Wycombe Wanderers visit in the first home game of the season on Saturday August 11.
